SIX. TWENTY. OUTRAGEOUS.
Three Gertrude Stein Plays in the Shape of an Opera

When an oddball couple, their sassy housekeeper, a sewing machine, and a deranged radio all start singing, Stein’s playful language is transformed into the ecstatic and uncannily beautiful new opera from composer Daniel Thomas Davis, librettist Adam Frank, and director-designer Doug Fitch. From a shopping expedition that turns into an erotic adventure to a presidential election party that goes prophetically and horribly wrong, Stein’s genius for upending convention is made startlingly relevant to our own cultural and political moment. This world premiere features an all-star lineup including vocalists Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek (Anonymous 4), Ariadne Greif, and Andrew Fuchs, joined by the Momenta Quartet and musical director David Bloom

Momenta presents the Lost String Quartet

Momenta presents the Lost String Quartet

Momenta presents a new theatrical string quartet piece for children based on N.M. Bodecker’s delightful illustrated children’s book "The Lost String Quartet." It features original music by Stephanie Griffin, theater direction and narration by Fernando Villa Proal, and newly created percussion instruments by Michael Evans.

The Lost String Quartet is a far-fetched story about all the terrible mishaps that befall a string quartet on its way to a concert in the thick of winter. Using the ebullient Finale of Mozart’s String Quartet in G, K. 387 as a point of departure, the music is a set of variations that become more outrageous as the story develops and the instruments are compromised, culminating in a finale played on homemade instruments.

Visit YouTube for The Making of the Lost String Quartet featuring music, interviews, and more!

December 4, 5, 6, 8- private performances through the Time In Children's Art Initiative.
Public performance December 10 at 11am. Children and adults of all ages are welcome! Seating is limited, so please make a reservation at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3181579.

A Night of Mark Adamo at National Sawdust

In song, chamber music, and four operas since 1998, composer-librettist Mark Adamo has returned again and again to a theme of becoming: how human beings—young and old, ancient and modern, real or imagined—struggle with, or embrace, the new characters time and circumstance turn them into.

As his new opera, Becoming Santa Claus, is released on DVD this fall, the composer will talk to Steve Smith between pieces about what’s changed, and what hasn’t, in his music. The artists of the Momenta Quartet pace three extraordinary singers through the a core sample of the work itself.
